By the side of lake leman, the « cité de l’eau » is located in a superb environement. The two main characteristics of this project are its underground dimension and its horizontality. Very discreet indeed, the architecture blends in the surrounding landscape. In this building, 5 meters high is the maximum height of any given wall. This building therefore never gives an impression of being frontal, but rather constantly offers fragmented perspectives.
The numerous activities that are on offer are organized along a linear structure: walking down the indoor path that goes through the building, one can glance at the numerous activities taking place in the various rooms: one room for instance, is dedicated to gymnastics, another one to a museum; a footpath allows the pedestrian to reach the next building, where one can find two swimming pools: the first one is for training and competitive swimming, the other one is for playful activities. At the end of this path, one reaches the alley that follows the banks of the lake.
Natural materials have been used here, whose patina evolves with time.
